Savory Place Card Trees, a cute and fun appetizer, no baking required, perfect for Christmas parties. Plus, they are also simple and quick to prepare. You’ll make a great impression.
For the preparation, I used slices of sandwich bread, crust removed. I cut them with star-shaped cookie cutters of different sizes, then filled each layer (3 in total) with cream cheese spread, slices of mozzarella, and uncured salami.
In reality, you can customize the place card trees with the ingredients you prefer. At the end of the recipe, you will find some tips.

Steps
HOW TO MAKE THE SAVORY PLACE CARD TREES
First, gently remove the slices of bread from the package, place them on a cutting board, and use 3 star-shaped cookie cutters of different sizes to cut out the stars.
Then, cut out the stars from the slices of salami. Press the cutter firmly, and before removing it, lift the excess part outside the mold: this way you will be able to get precise shapes. If necessary, use a sharp knife.
Proceed the same way with the slices of mozzarella. I recommend using pre-sliced mozzarella (like the one in the picture), not fresh, or it would release too much water.
Meanwhile, prepare the cream cheese: place the Philadelphia (or the cream cheese you prefer) in a small bowl and blend it well with a fork. Here, if you like, you can add some finely chopped chives or arugula.
Put the cream in a piping bag with the nozzle of your choice (I had a star one).
At this point, you can start to shape the trees. So, take the largest star of bread, cover it with the cream cheese (you can also spread it if you prefer), then add the star of mozzarella (offset the points) and finally, the salami. Put a dab of cream cheese in the center and continue with the other layers.
Then, overlap the medium-sized bread star, the cream cheese, the mozzarella, and the salami and finish with a smaller bread star.
Pierce the tree with a skewer (or these cute ones for appetizers), decorate them with rosemary needles and pomegranate seeds, and serve. Here are your Savory Place Card Trees ready. Enjoy your meal!
See you in the next recipe.
Storage
You can store the Savory Place Card Trees for 1 – 2 days in an airtight container.
Tips and Suggestions
– Cheese: you can replace the Philadelphia with the cream cheese you prefer. Likewise, with the sliced mozzarella. Based on your tastes (or what you have in the fridge), you can use sliced Emmental or provolone.
– Salami: you can replace it with the cold cut you prefer (ham, prosciutto, mortadella) or with salmon.
– To use them as place cards, create labels with the guest’s name (or simply “best wishes”), attach them to the skewer, and place each tree on the plate on the festively decorated table.
