Savory Yule Log, an incredibly easy, quick, and scenic appetizer, perfect for the Christmas holidays or New Year’s Eve dinner.
Basically, it’s a savory log but larger in size, made with rolled sandwich bread, filled with a layer of spreadable cheese (I used Philadelphia) and slices of Milano salami.
A very versatile recipe that you can make with your preferred ingredients. Perfect with smoked salmon or other types of cold cuts and/or cheeses. If you want, you can also add chopped chives, arugula, or parsley. And for a vegetarian version, with thinly sliced grilled vegetables.
But now, let’s see together how to make the Savory Yule Log recipe. Prepare the ingredients and let’s start.

- 5.3 oz Milano salami (or other cold cuts or salmon)

Tools
To make the Savory Yule Log, you will need:
- 1 Cutting board
- 1 Rolling pin
- 1 Fork
- 1 Plate
Steps
HOW TO MAKE THE SAVORY YULE LOG
First, gently remove the slices of bread from the package. Place one on the cutting board and press it well with the rolling pin, then divide it into 3 equal parts lengthwise.
Then, work the spreadable cheese with a fork directly in its container to make it easier to spread, and spread it on the bread, then, cut the salami slices in half and place them on top, slightly overlapping.
Press well one end of the bread strip and start to roll it from there. Once rolled, place the obtained swirl on another strip covered with cheese and salami and continue in this way with the other strips.
I used a total of 3 slices of bread, enough for 4 people. If there are more guests, increase the strips.
At this point, place the swirl on a serving plate (I used a log-shaped board) and, using a fork, spread the remaining Philadelphia all around and, with the tines, create the classic log patterns to make it more realistic. Refrigerate for at least half an hour before serving.
Before serving, decorate with rosemary sprigs, butcher’s broom berries (not edible though), and sprinkle some grated Parmesan like snow. Here is the Savory Yule Log ready. Enjoy your meal!
See you in the next recipe.
