Here are my delicious Nutella cookies for you! Soft and delicious, they are a real temptation! They are easy to make and loved by both adults and children! Perfect for breakfast, snack, or after a meal.
The shortcrust pastry remains soft and the Nutella doesn’t dry out! Those who prefer can fill the shortcrust cookies with various jams or preserves, they will be equally delicious!
They keep for days stored in food bags or cookie boxes. We can also store the Nutella cookies longer by putting them in the freezer. This way we avoid waste and consume only the amount we need.

- Cost: Medium
- Rest time: 1 Hour
- Preparation time: 30 Minutes
- Portions: about 30-35 cookies
- Cooking methods: Electric oven
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (+ as needed for the pastry board)
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg (medium whole)
- 3 tbsp milk (about 2 oz, not more)
- as needed lemon zest
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 9 oz Nutella® (about 9-10 oz)
Tools
- Pastry Board
- Rolling Pin
- Baking Tray
- Bowl
- Grater
Steps
In a bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, and grated zest of an organic lemon.
Mix the dry ingredients with a spoon and make a well in the center.
Break a medium whole egg into the center of the well and add cold butter in pieces.
Pour in three tablespoons of milk and mix the ingredients first with a fork.
The milk makes the pastry softer, but you can also skip it, it’s not essential.
Quickly knead the ingredients inside the bowl with your hands.
You should obtain a smooth and homogeneous dough.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
Take the dough from the fridge and for convenience, cut it in half.
I preferred to make rather small cookies and got a total of 5 pastry rolls.
Those who want larger cookies can make just two or one roll.
To make the operation easier, place the dough on a sheet of parchment paper.
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to form a rectangle.
As mentioned, adjust the size of each rectangle as needed.
Set aside the excess dough to make another roll.
Fill along the edge (only on one side) with a bit of Nutella without overdoing it!
Once filled, roll up the dough to form a log.
Seal well the roll along the edge and at both ends.
Wrap the roll obtained in parchment paper and repeat the operation with the leftover dough.
Once all the ingredients are used, place the pastry rolls on a baking sheet.
Please, DO NOT remove the parchment paper during baking.
Bake the Nutella cookies in a preheated static oven at 340°F for about 25 minutes. We can also bake them in an air fryer, 325°F for about 20 minutes.
Baking time may vary based on the size of the rolls.
After 25 minutes, do a test to check if they’re done.
Once done, remove from oven and let them cool completely for about an hour.
During this resting time, gently remove the parchment paper.
Then cut the Nutella cookies with a sharp knife.
Arrange on a plate and decorate with powdered sugar.
Et voilà, your delicious Nutella cookies are ready to be enjoyed!
I hope you enjoyed this recipe! Let me know in the comments below if you try it!
P.S. the final number of cookies varies based on the size you give to the rolls.
