Ginger and Lemon Drink

The ginger and lemon drink is a fragrant gluten-free and lactose-free non-alcoholic preparation with countless beneficial properties for our body. Thanks to its re-mineralizing properties, it is ideal, for example, after intense physical activity or to combat the heat when it is very hot. It can be sipped hot or cold, and we can decide whether to sweeten it or drink it as is. I prefer to add some honey (acacia or sulla) which softens the slightly spicy taste of the ginger and also contains minerals that, combined with the benefits of ginger and lemon, are always useful. Ginger is a spice with numerous healing properties for our body. We can use it to stimulate digestion, as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, to combat nausea, etc. In cooking, it is used both to flavor dishes based on meat or fish; or to prepare desserts, liqueurs, or drinks, as I did.

  • Cooking methods: Boiling
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All Seasons

Ingredients

  • 4 1/4 cups water
  • 2 ginger root about 2 inches
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 lemon

Steps

Peel and chop the ginger root, put it in a saucepan with the water and lemon zest, and bring to a boil; let it boil for 5 minutes, then turn off the heat and strain.

Sweeten immediately with honey (according to our taste) to ensure it dissolves perfectly and let our drink cool down. The drink will have a pale straw-yellow color, even if it is not evident from the photo.

Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice, stir, and drink.

If you want to drink it cold, allow the infusion to cool completely. Then transfer it to a glass bottle or a carafe and put it in the fridge.

When serving, squeeze the juice of a lemon and add it to the drink, also add some ice, stir, and sip.

It is preferable to add the lemon juice shortly before drinking the beverage; this way, we will also benefit from all the vitamins of this wonderful citrus fruit.
