Homemade Golden Milk

Golden milk, or “golden milk,” is a delicious and aromatic natural drink, gluten-free (also lactose-free if using the appropriate milk), based on turmeric paste, oil, cinnamon, and milk (dairy or plant-based). The name of this delightful preparation derives from the intense golden color, due to the presence of turmeric. It is precisely the presence of “curcumin,” the active ingredient of turmeric, that makes this drink very healthy for our body. Each ingredient in this preparation has a purpose; none are included randomly. Together, they contribute to making it special not only in taste or aroma but also as a natural remedy. Golden milk is used in Ayurvedic medicine to regulate blood pressure, as a pain reliever, anti-inflammatory, to cleanse the liver and body, to strengthen the immune system, and so on. It also helps to lubricate joints and improves joint elasticity. Golden milk is also excellent for combating early colds.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz turmeric powder
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric paste
  • to taste honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil (or olive, rice oil)
  • to taste ground cinnamon (or stick)

Tools

  • 1 Jar of 100 g.

Steps

Let’s prepare the turmeric paste by putting the water, turmeric powder, and ground pepper (which will help our body assimilate curcumin) in a saucepan.

Over low heat, stir continuously until you get a thick, lump-free paste (about 1 minute).

Turn off and let cool. When the turmeric paste is cold, transfer it to a sterilized airtight jar (a 100 g jar works well) and put it in the fridge. It keeps for about 40 days. Wait at least a day before using it.

Prepare the golden milk by melting 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric paste, honey, and oil in the milk in a saucepan over low heat.

Stir often, and when the milk is very hot, turn off, pour into the cup, and sprinkle your homemade golden milk with ground cinnamon.

Extra idea. You can also add a little cinnamon stick, in addition to the ground one. Put a few shavings in the milk along with all the other ingredients and proceed to prepare your drink as described above. Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic properties and much more.
