Valentine’s Day Hearts

in ,

Romantic and delicious, these are the Valentine’s Day hearts, delightful pastries with a soft heart of dark chocolate, to prepare for celebrating with our dearest ones. They are very quick and made with just a few ingredients. We can prepare them as a dessert at the end of a meal or for breakfast.

  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 14 hearts
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Valentine's Day

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 3.5 tbsp Butter (very soft)
  • 3.5 tbsp Vanilla powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1.5 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 pinch Fine salt
  • to taste Lemon zest
  • 1.4 oz Dark chocolate
  • 1 tsp Milk

Preparation

  • In a stand mixer, sift the flour, add the baking powder, salt, grated lemon peel, powdered sugar, milk, and very soft butter. Mix just enough to bind the ingredients and get a firm dough.

Dust a work surface with flour. Roll out a sheet 1/5 inch thick. Cut out with 2.5-inch heart-shaped cutters.

Make a deep indentation on each heart with a stick or the handle end of a wooden spoon.

Place the hearts on a baking tray covered with parchment paper and keep them in the fridge, in the coldest part, covered with plastic wrap, for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, bake them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until they are evenly golden.

If the “indentations” close due to the effect of the baking powder, simply remake them as soon as the cookies are out of the oven, when they are still hot.

While the hearts are cooling, melt the dark chocolate with a teaspoon of milk in a double boiler. Once melted, pour a scant teaspoon into each indentation, filling them. Let the hearts cool before enjoying them.
