Ingredients for the soft Nutella cake in a 9-inch pan

  • 3.5 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 3.5 tbsp sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.42 oz fresh yeast (or half a packet of dry yeast)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 14 oz Nutella®

Tools needed to prepare the Nutella cake

  • 1 Pan

Preparation of the Nutella Cake

To prepare this dessert, we first need to make the dough and wait for it to rise. With the amount of yeast indicated in the recipe, the dough will be ready to work with after about 2 hours. If you want to speed up the process, increase the amount of yeast or, conversely, you can decrease it and wait a little longer for it to rise.

  • To prepare this dough, we can proceed either by hand or with a mixer; the process is the same. The first step is to put the butter in a small saucepan, add sugar and milk, and place it over low heat, stirring continuously until the butter and sugar are melted.

  • Pour the flour into the mixer bowl, add the yeast, eggs, and a pinch of salt, and start kneading by adding the now lukewarm butter. We should obtain a soft but not sticky mixture, place it in a slightly buttered bowl, cover it, and let it rest until it doubles in size.

  • Once the dough has risen, transfer it to the work surface and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/8 inch thick. Then pour the Nutella and use a spatula to cover the entire surface of the brioche.

  • We’re now at the “construction” stage of the cake. Using a knife, cut the Nutella-covered brioche into strips about 1 1/4 inches wide. Take the first strip and roll it into a cylinder, placing it in the center of the pan (which we would have lined with parchment paper).

  • Continue by taking the second strip and rolling it around the previously created cylinder, and proceed in this way until the end. You’ll see that the cake will gradually take shape!

  • Bake in a static oven at 350°F for about 25 minutes, then remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly before transferring it to a serving plate!

Frequently Asked Questions

In this section, you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions I’ve received about making this cake. If you don’t find what you’re looking for here, feel free to write to me!

  • I find it difficult to roll the strips. How can I simplify the process?

Cut a sheet of parchment paper and place it on the work surface instead of the pan, and assemble the cake directly on the surface. This way, you won’t have the sides of the pan in the way. Once the cake is assembled, you can lift the parchment paper and gently place it in the pan.

  • How do I store the Nutella cake?

Once completely cooled, store it in a tightly closed cake container for up to 3-4 days.

  • What else can I add to the Nutella?

To make the cake even more delicious, once you’ve spread the Nutella, you can add chopped hazelnuts or sliced almonds.
