I love roasted chestnuts, how can you resist, for example, chestnuts when you go shopping in autumn? Here in the Netherlands, I dream of roasted chestnuts, but luckily this year I found some beautiful chestnuts, and wanting to roast them, I finally tried making them in my air fryer!

I had read about this method for a couple of years, both in the various facebook groups where there’s chatter about how to use this very useful appliance and on the internet, where I even found some videos in German, and there the chestnuts are called not marroni, but rather: “maroni”… I’ll say no more!
I tried making them in the simplest possible way: no soaking in water, no salt… just two little cuts and off they go into my Airfryer. The roasted chestnuts in the air fryer are simply wonderful, and nothing gets dirty! Let’s make them…
Find other uses for the air fryer here:
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Cost: Medium
- Preparation time: 5 Minutes
- Cooking time: 18 Minutes
- Portions: 3
- Cuisine: Healthy
- Seasonality: Autumn, Autumn, Winter
Ingredients
- 15 chestnuts
- Points for 5 chestnuts = 1 WW point
Tools
- Knife
- Air Fryer
Preparation
First, score the chestnuts on the puffiest side to make a cross (but even a single horizontal cut can work). With the cross cut, however, they look prettier because the skin will open like flower petals!
Preheat the air fryer to 392°F (200°C) and place the chestnuts directly in the basket with the cut side facing up. Set the timer for 18 minutes, sufficient for 15 chestnuts.
If you need to make more chestnuts, I suggest not to fill the basket by stacking them, better to cook in multiple batches. During cooking, there’s no need to shake the basket. Taste a chestnut, and if the peel comes off easily and the chestnut is soft inside, then the cooking is done.
Here, our roasted chestnuts in the air fryer are ready! The house smelled wonderful, and I struggled to take pictures because my instinct was screaming: eat them all and eat them now!
How good they are and nothing gets dirty! The Dutchman tasted one and commented that he likes chestnuts raw: he’s a barbarian, there’s no denying it! But then, after taking the photos, when I offered him half, he immediately accepted and polished them all off without a word. There you go, and I wanted my roasted chestnuts all to myself! Tomorrow I’ll buy more and make them, oh! In the meantime, try making them yourself and let me know…
Enjoy!
