- 4 slices rustic bread
- 4 figs
- 4 slices prosciutto
- 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/3 cup red wine
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon honey
Steps
To prepare the fig bruschetta, start by making the balsamic vinegar sauce. In a stainless steel saucepan, pour the balsamic vinegar, wine, sugar, and honey. Transfer the saucepan to the stove over medium heat and bring to a boil. Stir often and let it boil for about 4 minutes. The liquid should reduce to about half of the initial amount, but it should not gel. Judge if it needs to cook for a few more or fewer minutes. Turn off the heat and let it cool slightly.
Meanwhile, toast the bread slices on both sides in a skillet or on a griddle.Once ready, top with a slice of prosciutto and a fig cut into slices a little less than a quarter of an inch thick. Use a teaspoon to drizzle a few drops of balsamic sauce on top and serve at the table.
