Ingredients to Make Apple Puree in a Jar

  • 2 apples (small (10.6 oz))
  • 1/2 lemon (the juice)
  • a quarter vanilla pod

What You Need to Make Apple Butter in a Jar

  • 1 Jar from 2 cups with thin seal
  • 1 Knife small
  • 1 Hand Blender

How to Make Apple Butter

  • Peel the apples, remove the core and cut them into small cubes, letting them fall directly into the jar. Pour the juice of half a lemon over the apple cubes and mix. Scrape the vanilla pod seeds* with the tip of the knife and add them to the apples.

Clean the rim of the jar, close and latch, as per instructions, place the jar in the microwave and start cooking for 6 minutes, at medium power. I cooked it at 500 watts, based on a 750-watt water test.

  • At the end of the cooking, let the closed jar rest for at least 20 minutes*. During the rest, the apple butter in jar cooking recipe will finish cooking and a vacuum will form in the jar.

  • When the jar is at room temperature, you can store it in the fridge closed and keep the apple butter for 15 days.

To enjoy the apple butter, proceed as follows: remove the clamps and pull the seal; if you prefer, you can gently warm it in the microwave, insert the hand blender into the jar and reduce the apples to a puree. Serve or use it for your recipes.

From the Pan to the Jar Recommends

Instead of the vanilla seeds, you can use a piece of exhausted pod, removing it before blending. This is a great way to use up exhausted vanilla pods.

As an alternative to vanilla, you can use a pinch of cinnamon.

Before cooking, assess the sweetness of the apples and, if necessary, add a tablespoon of erythritol or coconut sugar.

It is preferable to let the jar of cooked apples rest for 24 hours before opening.

How to Use Apple Butter?

Besides being enjoyed by the spoonful, apple butter, also known as apple butter, can be spread on toasted bread or pancakes, becoming a substitute for butter and sugar in cakes.
