Fennel with Orange in Jar Cooking

Microwave jar-cooked fennel with orange, if you love the Sicilian fennel and orange salad, don’t miss this jar-cooked version, it’s an excellent side dish. I love fennel in jar cooking, their flavor is amplified thanks to the jar cooking. Combined with oranges, like this salmon and fennel in jar cooking, their sweetness pairs well with the citrus.

This recipe is not my idea but comes from a member of my support group. They posted the recipe 2 years ago, and since then, I’ve promised myself to try it. They were right, it’s delicious and today I want to share it with you.

The recipe is very simple, just slice a fennel, an orange, a small amount of red onion, and layer them in the jar along with some black olives. The result is amazing, great hot, delicious when warm. Even better if enjoyed a few days later. Thanks to jar cooking, the flavors in the closed jar are amplified and, as they say in Southern Italy, the recipe marries well.

Now, get your jars ready and let’s make the best fennel with orange recipe there is!

How to Make Fennel with Oranges in Jar Cooking

  • Peel the orange, slice it thinly, and then cut each slice in half. Clean the fennel and slice it thinly. Do the same with the onion.

  • Place a few slices of fennel in the jar, continue with a few slices of orange, some olives, salt, and pepper. Continue creating the second layer until the jar is filled. Season with more salt, pepper, and drizzle with the olive oil.

  • Clean the rim of the jar, close and clamp it. Place in the microwave and cook for 6 minutes at tested power, I did it at 600 watts.

  • At the end of cooking, let the closed jar rest for at least 20 minutes. During the rest, the recipe will finish cooking and a vacuum will form in the jar, allowing you to store the fennel with orange recipe in jar cooking for 15 days.
