Ingredients for Cooking Garlic in a Jar

  • 4 garlic (heads)
  • 2 pinches salt
  • 2 sprigs thyme
  • 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil

What You Need to Cook in a Jar in the Microwave

  • 1 Microwave Oven
  • 1 Jar 500 ml thin-sealed

Procedure

  • To start, take the garlic heads and clean them of the outermost leaves. Cut off a small portion of the top and remove any roots, trying not to separate the cloves.
    Place the garlic heads in the jar, with the cut side facing up. Season with salt, oil, and flavor with thyme.
    Clean the rim of the jar, close, and secure. Place the jar of garlic in the microwave and start cooking for 8 minutes at your tested power, I use 600 watts.
    After cooking, remove the jar from the microwave and let it rest closed for at least an hour. In this way, the garlic heads will finish cooking at a low temperature, and a vacuum will form in the jar.
    Once at room temperature, you can store it in the refrigerator for 10 days.

  • To open the vacuum-sealed jar of garlic, simply pull the seal. Take the cooked garlic heads and squeeze each clove with your fingers, the cooked and creamy garlic will come out from the top.
    If you want to have it ready for your future recipes, squeeze all the cloves, letting the garlic pulp fall onto a plate. Mash with a fork and distribute in a small jar with a screw cap. Press the cooked garlic down and cover the surface with a drizzle of oil. Then, store in the refrigerator. It will last 15/20 days and will be ready for use.

Extra Tips for Garlic Cooked in a Jar in the Microwave

Try to fill the jar with more garlic heads; depending on the size, you may need more or fewer.
If you use a lot of garlic in cooking, you can also cook just the garlic cloves in their skins; clearly, many more will fit.
