Ingredients for pumpkin and lentil dahl in jar cooking

  • 4 1/4 oz pumpkin
  • 1 1/2 oz red lentils, hulled
  • 1/3 oz onion
  • 1/2 clove garlic
  • 1/2 chili pepper (optional)
  • 1/6 oz fresh ginger
  • 1 sprig parsley
  • 1 pinch ground white mustard
  • 1 pinch cumin
  • 1 tsp curry (heaping)
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2/3 cup water (or vegetable broth)
  • 1 pinch salt

  • 1 Microwave oven
  • 1 Jar 500 ml with thick gasket
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Strainer fine mesh

How to make lentil and pumpkin dahl in jar cooking?

  • Rinse the lentils, using the strainer and drain them. Distribute them in the jar and proceed to clean the pumpkin, removing the skin, seeds, and fibers. Cut it into cubes and add it to the lentils. Continue by adding ginger, parsley, garlic, and finely chopped onion.

  • Flavor with mustard, cumin, curry, salt, and oil. Pour the water, or broth, and mix well. Clean the rim of the jar, close and fasten.

  • Set the microwave to your tested power (I use 600 watts), place the jar in it, and start cooking for 6 minutes. Take care, around the fourth minute, to gently rock the jar on a surface to mix the contents, using a cloth to protect your hands. Finish cooking, remove the jar from the microwave and let it rest for at least 20 minutes, or, better, until the contents keep simmering at a low temperature. This way, you’ll get a creamy recipe with perfectly cooked lentils. Once at room temperature, you can store the lentil dahl in jar cooking in the refrigerator, where it will keep for 15 days.

You can serve the pumpkin and lentil dahl, accompanied by some good pilaf rice in jar cooking.
