Microwave quinoa is an excellent way to cook this pseudo-cereal. Like microwave venere rice, quinoa also cooks with high energy efficiency. I often cook quinoa, both in jar cooking and in the instant pot, and being able to cook it in medium quantities in the microwave is really useful. Quinoa is rich in noble proteins and has a low glycemic index, often using it as a substitute for couscous, both warm and cold in salads. I recommend pairing it with vegetables, for example with microwave ratatouille or mixed vegetables. If you’re wondering if it’s worth cooking grains in the microwave, dispel any doubts by cooking quinoa in the microwave at half of its cooking time.
With this recipe, I tested a new glass base container with microwave valve lid. The glass is tempered 4 times and the lid withstands 800 watts. At the end of cooking, I closed the valve, letting the internal pressure finish the cooking. I love glass, endlessly reusable, hygienic, and it allows me to see the food inside, and where I can, this is my orientation.
Now, let’s go to the recipe and don’t miss The great microwave book, where I explain well the useful microwave accessories and where you will find a way to learn to use the microwave 360°.

Ingredients for 3 servings of quinoa
- 1 cup quinoa
- 1.75 cups water
- 2 pinches salt
What you’ll need
- 1 Container for microwave cooking
- 1 Sieve fine mesh
Procedure
Place the quinoa in the sieve and rinse it well to remove the saponin. Spread the quinoa in the container and add the salt and water. Stir and close the container with its lid, leaving the valve open.
Place the container in the microwave and start cooking for about 10 minutes at 800 watts. At the end of cooking, close the valve and let the closed container rest for 5 minutes.
After resting, open the valve, remove the lid, and fluff the quinoa. Season to taste and enjoy.
If you want to store the quinoa for 3 days in the refrigerator and in a sort of vacuum seal, leave the container closed, wait for it to return to temperature, and store it in the refrigerator. It’s a great meal prep.
Rosella Errante’s Tips
Cooking quinoa in the microwave also takes advantage of the steam function formed inside the container. It won’t be necessary to add fats.
