How to Make Pilaf Rice in a Jar in the Microwave?

  • Pour the Basmati rice into the jar, add the salt, room temperature water, and butter. Clean the edge of the jar, close and secure it.

  • Swing the jar on the work surface to mix the contents well. Let it rest for a minute and mix again. Program the microwave at 500 watts or at an intermediate power between the tested and halved power (water test) for 6 minutes*.

  • Place the jar in the microwave and start cooking. At the end, let the closed jar rest for 20 minutes. This waiting time is essential. Once the jar is vacuum-sealed, release and let it open in the microwave (as per instructions) for about 3 minutes, at 750 watts. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve.

Tips

If you want to store pilaf rice in the fridge for 2 days, cook for 5 minutes. The original recipe uses butter but, alternatively, you can use 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. For an oriental touch and if you plan to pair it with oriental recipes, use an equal weight of coconut butter.

Whole Grain Pilaf Rice in Jar Cooking

You can replace Basmati rice with a whole grain version, which has a cooking time of 20 minutes. In this case, cook for 7 minutes. Whole grain rice will preserve better, so you can store it for a week.
