Pork Shank in Slow Cooker

Pork Shank in Slow Cooker – here’s how to perfectly cook pork shank at a low temperature in the slow cooker. Among my favorite meats in the winter season, there’s pork shank. I’ve cooked it in a pot and I’ve baked it with juniper, but this is the first time I’m cooking it in the slow cooker and I can say it’s the best way to cook shank and make it tender and juicy. After trying braised ribs in slow cooker and pulled pork, I couldn’t miss the recipe for cooking shank in the slow cooker.

For this recipe, I decided to cook the shank with light beer, flavored with herbs and pink pepper. The only step to seal the meat was browning it in oil, then I added the rest of the ingredients, closed the pot, and let it cook.

In fact, I cooked 2 pork shanks in the slow cooker, prepared mashed potatoes, and served the pork shank recipe with puree to 4 people.

Now, let’s make the pork shank recipe in the slow cooker!

Ingredients to Make Beer Shank in Slow Cooker

  • 2 pork shank
  • cups light beer
  • 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 leaf bay leaf
  • 1 sprig rosemary
  • 6 berries pink pepper
  • 3 pinches salt

What You Need

  • 1 Slow cooker

Instructions

  • Pat the pork shanks dry with paper towels to ensure good browning and avoid unnecessary splatter. Pour the oil into the pot, add the 2 pork shanks, and brown on all sides. If using a slow cooker, this step should be done in a skillet. Otherwise, with the multicooker, you can use the dedicated function at 390°F. Turn off the pot or the flame.

  • Place the shanks in the slow cooker, if you browned them in a skillet, and season with herbs, salt, and pour the beer over them. Toss them in the seasoning and then close the pot.

Set the slow cooker for 5 hours on high.

  • Serve the pork shank with its gravy and a good side dish.
