Tempeh in Jar Cooking

Tempeh in microwave jar cooking, a vegan recipe that will make tempeh truly tasty. Great served as a second course, perhaps accompanied by jar-cooked zucchini or peppers.

Called soy meat due to its high protein content, comparable to red meat. Tempeh is used as a substitute in vegan and vegetarian diets. Unlike tofu, which is of Chinese origin, tempeh is produced in Indonesia and is made from soybeans, like tofu, but fermented. Another important difference is that tempeh must be consumed cooked.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by its taste and texture, and I found it much more flavorful than tofu. I believe I will create many recipes with tempeh in jar cooking. For this recipe, I started from the almond chicken in jar cooking recipe, adapting it for tempeh. Today, I want to share the recipe with you and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

How to Make Tempeh in a Jar in the Microwave

  • Spread the almonds on the tray, toast them in the microwave for 1:30 on high power.

Meanwhile, peel, wash, and slice the scallions. Remove the almonds from the tray and add the scallions, oil, and grated ginger, mix. Place the tray in the microwave and sauté for 3 minutes on high power.

In the meantime, cut the tempeh into cubes and dust it with flour.

  • Place the sautéed scallion, tempeh cubes, almonds, and add the water and soy sauce in the jar. Clean the rim of the jar, close and clamp it. Shake the jar to mix the ingredients.

  • Set the microwave to the tested power level, I use 600 watts, insert the jar and start cooking for 6 minutes.

At the end of cooking, let the closed jar rest for at least 20 minutes. This way, a vacuum will form in the jar and the jar-cooked tempeh will finish cooking.

Once it reaches room temperature, you can store it for 15 days in the fridge. Or, you can remove the clips, place the jar in the microwave and heat for about 3 minutes.
