After baked feta and feta preserved in oil, today I suggest crispy feta in the air fryer. It’s one of those simple but brilliant recipes that can turn a few ingredients into an irresistible snack. You’ll get bites that are crispy on the outside and soft inside, perfect when you want something tasty to prepare without turning on the stove or oven. The secret is the breading, golden and crunchy, enriched with fioretto cornmeal which gives each piece a pleasantly rustic texture. The air fryer does the rest, making the feta perfectly crispy, light and without kitchen odors. It’s ideal as finger food and can easily be the star of a homemade aperitif. Make it for friends or treat yourself to a savory indulgence… the result is guaranteed. And if you try it, tell me honestly: were you able to resist eating at least one piece straight out of the air fryer?

Ingredients for crispy feta in the air fryer
For the breading: I haven’t specified exact amounts of all-purpose flour, breadcrumbs and fioretto cornmeal because you can measure them “by eye” and add them as you bread the bites, preparing them little by little (this way you avoid waste). Simply use a little more breadcrumbs than fioretto cornmeal for a balanced, very crispy coating. As for the egg, one is enough.
- 7 oz feta cheese
- 1 egg (medium or large)
- all-purpose flour
- breadcrumbs
- fioretto cornmeal
- black pepper
- extra virgin olive oil (best if spray)
Tools
- 3 Small deep plates
- 1 Air fryer
- Air fryer parchment paper
Preparation of crispy feta in the air fryer
Cut the feta into 15 cubes.
Prepare three small deep plates: one with all-purpose flour, one with the egg beaten together with a generous grind of black pepper, and one with breadcrumbs and fioretto cornmeal. The ratio I used for the last two ingredients was 2:1. That is, 2 tablespoons of breadcrumbs and 1 tablespoon of cornmeal.
Now pass each feta cube first in the flour, then in the egg and finally in the breadcrumb and cornmeal mixture. Press well so it adheres. If you want an even thicker crust you can double-coat by passing each cube again in the egg and then in the breadcrumb/cornmeal. I didn’t do that and found them perfect as is.
Arrange the feta bites in the air fryer basket lined with perforated parchment and lightly spray them with oil. In this case an oil spray is best. If you don’t have one, use oil and a brush.
Cook the bites at 356°F for 10 minutes, turning them halfway through. They should be golden outside and soft inside. If you want them more browned, you can add another minute at 374°F.
The crispy feta bites from the air fryer are ready to be enjoyed. You can eat them as they are or serve them with honey. Enjoy! Paola.
