I can’t wait for the Christmas season to start making tree or star-shaped sweets. What can I say! I find them so cute and beautiful to photograph. They also help to increase the magic of this time of year, which is unique. So today I made these soft and delicious lemon stars. They are perfect little treats to accompany a warm cup of tea during the holidays. Invite some friends, bring them to the table, and you’ll see how much they’ll be appreciated.

Other Christmas single-portion treats:

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 30 Minutes
  • Portions: 11/12 stars
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas

Ingredients for the Lemon Stars

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3.5 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg (medium)
  • 3.5 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 pinch baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Half lemon (untreated – zest and juice)
  • powdered sugar (for dusting)

Tools

  • 2 Bowls
  • Sieve fine mesh
  • Grater for citrus fruits
  • 2 Molds silicone star

Preparation of Lemon Stars

  • Mix the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and baking powder.

  • Grate the zest from half an organic lemon using a citrus grater, then squeeze its juice (at least 2–3 tbsp). Set aside. I specified that the lemon should be organic, hence untreated, because the peel of regular lemons is not edible.

  • In a bowl, combine the sugar and egg and beat them with an electric mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy.

  • Add the milk, oil, and lemon juice, and mix again with the mixer.

  • Then also add the grated zest.

  • Now gradually add gradually the dry ingredients by sifting them through a fine-mesh sieve and gently fold them into the mixture with a spatula.

  • Distribute the mixture into silicone star-shaped molds, without filling them completely. If you don’t have them and want to buy them, you can find them online by clicking HERE or HERE. Choose the one you prefer!

  • Bake the lemon stars in a preheated static oven at 350°F for 20 minutes. Let them cool completely before dusting with powdered sugar and transferring to the serving plate. Enjoy! Paola
