Orange Herbal Tea

It’s worth trying this orange herbal tea even just for the delightful aroma that fills the kitchen while it boils on the stove. It’s intoxicating, enveloping, relaxing. It tastes delicious too. Gray day, fireplace, blanket, book in one hand and cup in the other: mmmmm… a true treat.

Ingredients for Orange Herbal Tea

The orange that will be boiled must be untreated because the peel of regular oranges is not edible. However, this is not a problem for the orange and lemon that will be juiced and whose peel will not be used.

  • 2 oranges (1 untreated)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 star anise
  • 3 cloves
  • 4 cups water
  • honey (to sweeten)

Tools

  • 1 Citrus Juicer
  • 1 Saucepan with lid

Preparation of Orange Herbal Tea

  • Wash the untreated orange well and cut it into slices. Then place them in a saucepan with 4 cups of water, a cinnamon stick, three cloves, and two star anise stars.

  • Transfer the saucepan to the stove, cover, bring to a boil, and let it boil for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, juice the second orange and the lemon and set the juice aside.

  • After 15 minutes of boiling, turn off the heat and let everything rest for another 15 minutes.

  • When the orange herbal tea has cooled down, add the citrus juice and sweeten to taste with honey. It’s always best not to add citrus juice to a very hot beverage because vitamin C is thermolabile and deteriorates. Honey also loses many of its nutritional properties if heated above 104°F.

  • This orange herbal tea can be served to 3/4 people or consumed by one person throughout the day. Enjoy! Paola
