Savory Puff Pastry Bows

I’ve always said and always will say that a roll of puff pastry can do wonders. It’s always a good idea, therefore, to keep one in the fridge (even two!). In this case, I used it to prepare some tasty savory puff pastry bows to serve with an aperitif to some friends who, with very little notice, told me they would come to visit us. In a flash, they were ready to be baked. Thus, I was able to serve a special snack even though it was extremely simple. In this recipe, I used only black olive pâté, but any type of spreadable savory filling will do. So, unleash your creativity.

Savory Puff Pastry Bows
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 20 Minutes
  • Portions: 12 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients for the Savory Puff Pastry Bows

  • 1 roll puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 1.5 oz black olive pâté

Tools

  • Rolling pin
  • 1 Baking tray

Preparation of the Savory Puff Pastry Bows

  • Unroll the rectangle of puff pastry, keeping it on the baking paper included in the package. Then gently roll over it with the rolling pin to make it more even.

  • Spread the black olive pâté over the surface of the rectangle.

  • Then roll the rectangle starting from both short sides until the two rolls meet in the center.

  • Overlap the right roll over the left one to form a single roll and trim the ends to even it out perfectly.

  • Now cut it into 12 pieces.

  • Take each piece and make a cut without touching the intact end of the dough: you will notice, in fact, that each piece has an entire part and a double part. The cut should be made leaving the intact part untouched.

  • At this point, open the two ends bringing the intact part of the dough to the center. Slightly flatten with your fingers and shape what will be the butterfly wings.

  • Arrange the savory puff pastry bows in a baking tray lined with parchment paper, keeping them a bit apart from each other.

  • Bake the savory puff pastry bows in a preheated static oven at 356°F for 20/25 minutes or until they are golden. Take them out of the oven and let them cool slightly before enjoying. Enjoy! Paola
