Sweet Mint

I called it sweet mint and it’s a delightful mint drink enriched with mint juice with lemon and lime. It is extremely refreshing and, for this reason, perfect to drink when the heatwave gives us no respite. Moreover, it is very easy to prepare. Take it to the beach, enjoy it on the terrace, in the garden or by the pool. Drink it with friends or alone with a good book. In any case, it will be perfect.

Ingredients for a pitcher of sweet mint

  • 5 cups water
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 lemon (untreated)
  • 2 limes
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1.5 tbsp milk
  • 1/3 cup mint (+ a few leaves)
  • ice

Tools

  • 1 Small pot
  • 1 Citrus grater
  • 1 Juicer
  • 1 Blender
  • 1 Strainer
  • 1 Pitcher

Preparation of the sweet mint drink

  • Put 2 cups of water in a small pot, add the sugar, and bring to the heat.

    Heat gently, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Then turn off the heat, add a few mint leaves, and let cool completely. If you need to speed up the process, transfer the liquid to a bowl.

  • Wash the lemon very well, dry it, and grate the peel with a citrus grater. Use a strictly untreated lemon because the peel of common lemons is not edible.

  • Squeeze the juice of the lemon and the two limes. You will need 1/2 cup in total.

  • Put the remaining water (3 cups) in the pitcher of a blender and add the powdered sugar, mint leaves, milk, lemon zest, and citrus juice. Once cooled, add the previously prepared sugar water syrup and blend. I also added the mint leaves that I had left to infuse.

  • At this point, strain everything through a fine mesh strainer placed over a pitcher.

  • Transfer the sweet mint drink to the refrigerator to chill perfectly. Serve it with plenty of ice cubes, garnishing the glass with a sprig of fresh mint. Enjoy! Paola
