If you’re looking for a sugary and unusual snack, these sweet pink popcorns might be an idea. Nothing to do with the classic light version: here we go straight to the sweetest (and alas calorie-dense!) side of life. Made with corn kernels popped in a pan and covered with a syrup made of sugar, water, and butter, these popcorns become tiny clouds with a cheerful color and an irresistible aroma. They are perfect for kids’ parties and movie nights. But beware… remember they are not the classic popcorns to devour by the handful in front of the TV! Their sweetness makes them perfect to “nibble” one at a time, savoring them like little crunchy candies. And the calories? Well, today let’s not count them.

Ingredients for Sweet Pink Popcorn
This time I used powdered food coloring because that’s what I had at home, but in the past, I made the same recipe with liquid coloring and, in my opinion, it works better.
- 1/4 cup corn (for popcorn)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/3 cup water
- red food coloring
Tools
- 1 Pan with lid
- 1 Saucepan
- 1 Bowl
Preparation of Sweet Pink Popcorn
Heat a tablespoon of oil in a pan before adding the corn kernels, then cover with a lid.
Cook over medium heat, shaking the pan occasionally and always with the lid tightly closed until all the kernels have popped. If you prefer, you can also make the popcorn in the microwave.
Once ready, remove them from the pan and transfer them to a bowl.
In a saucepan, bring the water, butter, and sugar to a boil.
Then add the food coloring: add it gradually until you reach the desired intensity. Let the mixture boil for about 5 minutes without stirring, until it has become a fairly thick syrup.
At this point, remove it from the heat and pour it over the popcorn, quickly mixing with a spoon. Enjoy! Paola
Important: For the best taste, consume them within the day. As hours pass, the sugar tends to crystallize and the popcorn loses its crunchiness.
