Delicious waffles with lots of chocolate chips in the batter… the perfect Sunday breakfast! But they’re also good every other day of the week, maybe for a snack ;).
Making these waffles is very easy, you mix the dry ingredients, then add the wet ingredients, and finally the chocolate chips before cooking. If you don’t have a waffle iron, you can obviously use this batter to make pancake-like treats in a pan, dropping the batter by spoonfuls and cooking it on both sides.

- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All Seasons
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup potato starch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2.5 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup butter (melted)
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- to taste powdered sugar
- to taste hazelnut spread
- to taste chocolate chips
Steps
To make the chocolate chip waffles, place the flour, potato starch, baking powder, sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt in a bowl and mix.
Add the sour cream, milk, eggs, and melted butter and briefly work everything with the beaters, just until you get a batter with no visible traces of flour. Let it rest covered, at room temperature, for 30 minutes.
Shortly before the resting time is up, preheat the waffle iron.
Add and incorporate the chocolate chips into the batter.
When the waffle iron is hot, add the batter, measuring about a ladle for each waffle. Close the waffle iron and let cook for about 3 minutes, until golden. Remove the waffles from the iron and place them on a wire rack, keeping them warm if possible without stacking them.
Continue in the same way until the batter is finished.
Serve your chocolate chip waffles dusted with powdered sugar and a dollop of hazelnut spread.
