Meat Stuffed Peppers

Tasty, slightly spicy, and visually appealing, meat stuffed peppers are a delicious main course to serve on any occasion. They are cooked in a tomato and basil sauce and can be eaten in one bite, making them suitable to serve with an aperitif as well.

They are delicious enjoyed with a side of mashed potatoes or rice, but they are also suitable for dressing spaghetti or linguine, much like pasta with meatballs, except in this case, the meatballs are wrapped in tasty and decorative peppers.

Ingredients

  • 25 round spicy peppers
  • 9 oz mixed ground meat
  • 1/2 clove garlic
  • 1 tsp rosemary (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 1 oz onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • 14 oz tomato puree
  • to taste salt
  • 5 leaves basil

Steps

  • To prepare the meat stuffed peppers, wash the peppers, cut off the tops, and hollow out their insides with the help of a teaspoon.

    Place the ground meat in a shallow dish and add the finely chopped half clove of garlic, chopped rosemary and parsley, as well as salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything well to combine all the ingredients.

    Fill the peppers with the flavored meat and place them on a plate.

  • Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic. Heat a pan with 2-3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and sauté the onion and garlic for a couple of minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour in the tomato puree, salt, add the previously washed basil leaves, and bring to a boil.

  • When the tomato sauce boils, add the meat-filled peppers and cook for 20-25 minutes, until the peppers have softened and the meat is cooked.

    Serve your meat stuffed peppers with the tomato sauce, accompanied by rice, mashed potatoes, or even just simple slices of toasted bread.
