The crumble is one of the desserts that is always appreciated at my house, no matter how it is made and with any type of fruit. This one I prepared with pears, dark chocolate, and walnuts. A delight in every spoonful!
I flavored the pears with vanilla, cinnamon, and lemon, and while they cook at the bottom of the dish, releasing their juice which blends with the aromas, the top part, the crumble, becomes beautifully crunchy and buttery. It’s excellent cold, although in my opinion, served hot or warm, it’s even better, in that case, the chocolate pieces inside are still soft and even more delightful!

Ingredients
- 3.2 oz dark chocolate
- 3.2 oz walnuts
- 3 oz flour
- 1.8 oz rolled oats
- 2.5 oz sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 oz butter (cold)
- 5 pears (large)
- 3 tablespoons agave syrup (alternatively 2 tablespoons of sugar)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 pinches salt
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 0.9 oz cornstarch (or potato starch)
- as needed cream or ice cream (optional)
Steps
To prepare the pear and chocolate crumble, coarsely chop the dark chocolate and walnuts and place them in a bowl.
Add the flour, rolled oats, sugar, salt, and butter cut into cubes. Work it all with your fingertips until you get a crumbly mixture. Set aside.
Preheat the oven to 356 degrees Fahrenheit (fan-forced) and butter a baking dish.
Wash and peel the pears, remove the core, and cut them into cubes of approximately 0.6 x 0.6 inches. Put the pear cubes in a bowl and add the agave syrup, vanilla sugar, cinnamon, salt, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Mix everything well to combine the ingredients.
Transfer the pear mixture into the buttered baking dish and spread it on the bottom. Cover the pears with the rolled oats and chocolate crumble.
Bake at 356 degrees Fahrenheit for about 45 minutes, until the crumble is golden.
Remove from the oven and serve your pear and chocolate crumble hot or cold, accompanied with some whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream.
