Today I share with you a dessert that is a real explosion of freshness: the Cold Cake with Orange Cream!
This cake wins you over at the first taste and is incredibly easy to make. The true protagonist of this dessert is the orange: I used it to create a soft and fragrant custard, transforming a classic recipe into something truly special.
It’s a piece of cake to prepare. It doesn’t require baking and you can prepare it in advance, making it ideal to conclude lunches or dinners without stress. Such a genuine and vibrant flavor is impossible to forget!

Ingredients for the Cold Cake with Orange Cream

  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2.8 oz granulated sugar
  • 1.8 oz cornstarch
  • 3.7 fl oz orange juice (+ zest)
  • 7 oz whipping cream (I used the one found in the refrigerated section)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1.2 oz (biscuits)

Steps for the Cold Cake with Orange Cream

  • Place the milk with the orange zest on the stove.
    In a bowl, beat the eggs and sugar with a hand whisk, add the cornstarch and mix.
    Add the hot milk gradually, pour the entire mixture into the pot, place it on the stove and thicken over medium heat.
    Remove the orange zest and add the orange juice, continue stirring for about 2 minutes.
    Pour the obtained cream into a wide container to speed up cooling, cover with plastic wrap until ready to use.

  • Once the orange custard has completely cooled to room temperature, whip the cream with two tablespoons of sugar.
    Start adding the orange custard a little at a time and use electric beaters to incorporate well.
    Place the cream in the bottom of the baking dish followed by the biscuits, continue until all ingredients are used. I made three layers.

  • Garnish the top with some dark chocolate chips or whatever you prefer, cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge until ready to serve (for at least two hours).

    The cold cake with orange cream is ready!
