Crackers

Thin and crispy crackers. A snack that can be enjoyed at any time of the day, instead of bread or served with cold cuts and cheeses. You will feel immense satisfaction making them; they are easy and tasty.

Curiosity

The name Crackers comes from the verb “to crack (to break) and refers to the sound they make when they are broken. Crackers were invented in 1801 by baker Theodore Pearson of Massachusetts, who made biscuits with a dough of water, flour, and grains of salt on top, to preserve them for a long time so they wouldn’t spoil on sea voyages.

But now let’s start baking….

  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Cooking time: 20 Minutes
  • Portions: 60 small squares
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 1/2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp dried oregano

Steps

  • In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, and oregano. Gradually add the water and then the oil, mixing with a fork until possible, then quickly knead the dough by hand.

  • At this point, divide the dough into two parts to roll it out more easily and as thinly as possible, starting to roll in between two sheets of parchment paper, which will help avoid adding more flour.

  • Use a pizza cutter or knife to create squares or rectangles, as you prefer, and lightly oil the surface. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit in a static oven for 20 minutes, switching to a fan oven for the last few minutes. As you know, every oven behaves differently, so check for doneness after 15 minutes. If they are golden brown on the surface, the crackers are done.

  • The crackers are ready to be enjoyed.
