  • 1 roll of pizza dough
  • 3.5 oz cooked ham
  • 2.1 oz mozzarella for pizza
  • to taste black olives

Steps for Savory Rolls with Ham and Mozzarella

  • Unroll the pizza dough onto a work surface, keeping its parchment paper beneath.
    Cover the entire surface with slices of cooked ham, arranging them carefully.
    Cut the mozzarella for pizza into very small cubes and sprinkle them over the ham along with the chopped black olives.

    Start rolling the dough from the longer side, trying to roll it tightly to create a firm roll.
    Cut the cylinder into slices that are no larger than 0.8 inches: this step is crucial because if they are too thick, they will remain raw inside.

    Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each one.
    Bake in a preheated oven at 392°F for about 20-25 minutes, or until you see a nice golden crust.

The great thing about this recipe is that you can use whatever you have in the fridge. Here are some ideas to change the flavor:
If you want a stronger taste, try replacing the cooked ham with speck and add some smoked scamorza.
For a Mediterranean note, you can use sun-dried tomatoes in oil, well-drained, instead of black olives.
If you prefer a vegetarian version, fill the pizza dough with spinach sautéed in a pan (well-drained!) and plenty of parmesan.

Storage
You can store the rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
To make them crispy again, heat them for a few minutes in the oven or air fryer; avoid the microwave as the mozzarella and dough would become rubbery.
If you want to stock up, you can freeze them once they are cooked and cooled; just heat them in a hot oven directly from frozen to have them as freshly made.
