Parigina-Style with Zucchini, Ham, and Cheese Slices

Parigina-Style with zucchini, ham, and cheese slices: a simple and quick rustic dish to prepare: perfect for a different dinner or for a party or buffet.

The parigina-style is a savory pie inspired by the famous Neapolitan preparation. In my quick version, the base is ready-made pizza dough, filled with grilled zucchini, cooked ham and melting cheese slices, all enclosed in a golden shell of puff pastry.

It’s perfect for an informal dinner, a buffet or a summer lunch. It’s a versatile recipe that you can customize according to your tastes and the ingredients you have at home. It’s tasty and easy to prepare.

Make sure to try it!

How to Prepare the Parigina-Style with Grilled Zucchini, Cooked Ham, and Cheese Slices

  • Lay the ready-made pizza dough on a baking tray. Place the paper provided with the pizza dough underneath.

  • Arrange the grilled zucchini evenly. Adjust the salt and drizzle with a dash of extra virgin olive oil.

  • Add the slices of cooked ham.

  • Break the cheese slices into pieces and distribute them over the ham.

  • Cover with the rectangular roll of puff pastry, aligning the edges.

  • Seal the edges well by pressing them with your fingers or the prongs of a fork.

  • Poke the surface with a fork and make some small incisions with scissors or a knife.

  • Brush with a dash of extra virgin olive oil.

  • Bake in a static oven, preheated to 356°F (180°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

  • Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, and serve.

Storage

The parigina-style can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 days, in an airtight container. It can be reheated in a traditional oven or air fryer to regain its crispness. Freezing is not recommended as the pastry loses its crunchiness.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • How can I replace the zucchini, cheese slices, and cooked ham?

You can use eggplants, peppers, or spinach instead of zucchini. The cheese slice can be replaced with scamorza, well-drained mozzarella, or smoked provola. Instead of cooked ham, you can use roasted turkey, speck, or mortadella.

  • Can I make a vegetarian version?

Yes, you can remove the ham and enrich it with mixed grilled vegetables and melting cheese.
