Ingredients

  • 1 roll pizza dough
  • 3.5 oz cooked ham (2/3 slices)
  • 3.5 oz cream cheese
  • as needed milk (for brushing)

Tools

  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Baking Tray
  • 1 Brush
  • 1 Fork

How to Prepare Pizza Dough Croissants with Ham and Cheese

  • Unroll the ready pizza dough roll, keeping the provided paper underneath. Prick the dough with a fork.

  • With a knife, spread an even layer of cheese over half the dough. I used a cheese like Philadelphia. (Place the dough horizontally in front of you, and spread cheese on half the dough, lengthwise).

  • Arrange the slices of cooked ham over the cheese.

  • Fold it like a book: fold the pizza dough in half lengthwise, sealing the edges well to enclose the filling. You will have a long, narrow rectangle.

  • With a knife, cut the obtained rectangle into triangles (8/10 depending on the size you prefer).

  • Roll up each triangle starting from the base (the widest side) towards the tip. Try to give a slightly curved shape, similar to a croissant.

  • Place the croissants on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Leave a little space between each croissant. Brush the croissants with milk.

  • Bake in a preheated static oven at 350°F and let cook for about 30 minutes, or until the croissants are golden and puffed.

  • Remove the croissants from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. They are excellent either hot or warm.

Storage

Pizza dough croissants with ham and cheese are best consumed fresh. However, they can be stored in the refrigerator well sealed in an airtight container for up to 1-2 days. Before consuming, you can lightly reheat them in the oven to make them crispy again. It is also possible to freeze the cooked croissants. Let them cool completely and place them in a freezer-safe container. To consume, thaw them and then reheat in the oven to make them crispy.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • How can I substitute cooked ham?

You can replace it with other deli meats like speck, salami, mortadella, or even grilled vegetables for a vegetarian version (zucchini, eggplant, peppers).

  • Can I substitute pizza dough?

If you don’t have ready pizza dough, you can use puff pastry or shortcrust pastry. Keep in mind that cooking times may vary slightly.
