Two-Tone Squares

Two-Tone Squares: a simple and quick treat, perfect for breakfast and snack. Soft and delicious.

The two-tone squares are easy to prepare. For baking, I used a rectangular pan, and once ready, I cut the cake into squares. Of course, you can use any pan you prefer.

As I mentioned, the preparation is very simple, and the necessary ingredients are few.

But let’s see right away how to prepare the two-tone squares.

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 7/8 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup sunflower oil
  • 1 tbsp rum (or another liquor of your choice)
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • to taste dark chocolate (in shavings)
  • 1/4 cup bitter cocoa powder

Tools

  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Mixer
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 Pan

How to Prepare the Two-Tone Squares

  • In a bowl, add the eggs and sugar. Mix with the electric mixer.

  • Add the milk, oil, and liquor. I used rum, but you can use another liquor of your choice. (If you don’t like liquor, you can use the grated zest of an untreated lemon). Mix with the electric mixer.

  • Add the flour and baking powder. Mix everything well with the electric mixer, being careful not to create lumps.

  • Add chocolate shavings or chips according to your taste. (I used about 1 oz of dark chocolate). Mix with a spoon.

  • Pour a little more than half of the batter into a 6-serving disposable aluminum tray previously greased and floured or lined with parchment paper. If you want to take a look at my pan you can find it here.

  • To the remaining batter, add the cocoa powder. Mix with the electric mixer.

  • Pour the cocoa batter into the pan. If you like, add more chocolate shavings on the surface.

  • Bake in a preheated static oven at 350°F for 30/35 minutes. Make sure to check the cooking times based on your oven.

  • Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, and cut into squares.

  • Help yourself.
