Apple Fritters are small rings made with simple ingredients and offered during Carnival, but every now and then, having them for a snack isn’t a bad idea, in fact … one leads to another. The main ingredient is apples that, after being sliced, are dipped in a batter made with milk, flour, sugar, and finally fried in hot oil.

  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Very cheap
  • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 10 fritters
  • Cooking methods: Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • 2 Golden Apples
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 5 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 3.4 oz Rum
  • 2 cups l Peanut oil
  • 3/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 Eggs (medium)
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1 pinch Fine salt

Tools

  • 2 Bowls
  • Apple Corer
  • Frying Pan
  • Absorbent Paper

Steps

  • Start by peeling the apples and using the appropriate tool to remove the core. Cut them into slices about 1/4 inch thick and place them in a dish with brown sugar, rum, and the juice of half a lemon. Let them macerate for 30 minutes, turning them occasionally.

  • Sift the flour and baking powder, place them in a bowl, and add the 2 whole eggs, milk, 3 tablespoons of sugar. Mix with a whisk to prevent lumps until you get a smooth cream.

  • Pour the oil into a not too large pan and bring it to the right temperature. Drain the slices from the rum, dip them in the batter, and place them immediately in the hot oil (do the toothpick test, if the temperature is right, bubbles will form around the stick). Let them brown on both sides, about 2 minutes per side, and place them on a paper towel. Pass the Apple Fritters immediately after, while still hot, in sugar and cinnamon or sprinkle them with powdered sugar. They are very delicious but should be enjoyed hot.
