Apple strudel with ready puff pastry, a quick recipe for a good apple dessert that I must admit I prepare very often lately, perfect as a dessert to serve to conclude Sunday lunch. Often Sunday is family lunch, we all think of a rich menu with appetizers, main courses, second courses, and side dishes, and no one thinks of dessert, so it happened just a few Sundays ago that at the last minute my sister-in-law asked who is thinking about dessert, luckily I had a roll of puff pastry in the fridge, and I thought of making a dessert out of it, in a few minutes, as there was very little time left. Apples are never missing at my house, 2 walnuts, a bit of raisins that I always keep in a glass jar, and that’s how my apple strudel with puff pastry was born, enriched with lots of walnuts and raisins, flavored with rum. When I happen to have a roll of puff pastry in the fridge, I often prepare it for Sunday lunch; it’s a good way to conclude Sunday lunch with family, sipping good coffee, warm by the fireplace.

Steps to Prepare Apple Strudel with Puff Pastry
First, we clean the walnuts if they are not already shelled. Use a good amount; they taste great in apple strudel.
Peel the apples, cut them into chunks, place them in a large bowl, immediately add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, a bit of lemon juice, cinnamon, chopped raisins, walnuts, a bit of rum, 2 scant tablespoons of breadcrumbs or crumbled amaretti, and mix.
Unroll the puff pastry after letting it sit for 2 minutes at room temperature.
Fill along the longer side in the center.
Fold the pastry over, first from one side, then the other. Seal the edges well.
Transfer onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
With a knife, cut the surface of the strudel to simulate slices; this will make it easier to cut later.
Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with more brown sugar.
Bake in a preheated static oven at 356°F (180°C) for about 30 minutes, mid-height in the oven, until the apple strudel with puff pastry is well browned.
Let cool, and before serving, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
