The apple pie is the perfect dessert to celebrate the arrival of autumn! The apple pie is an American cake with a fragrant filling of apples and spices. For its preparation, you will need to make a dough similar to our shortcrust pastry, using: flour, butter, sugar, salt, water, and eggs. For the filling, the apples will be flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. The uniqueness of this cake, apart from its unmistakable taste, is the decoration, giving you the freedom to be creative and imaginative.

Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups Flour
- 2 cups Butter
- 1 Eggs
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/8 cup Sugar
- 3 tbsp Water
- 6 large Apples
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Nutmeg
- Lemon juice
- 1 Egg
- to taste Sugar
Preparation
To make the apple pie, in a large bowl, or using a stand mixer, add the flour, sugar, and salt. Mix and add the cold butter cut into cubes, knead until you get a crumbly mixture. Then incorporate a beaten egg and the cold water. Mix the ingredients until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough. Divide the dough into two equal parts and wrap each piece in plastic wrap. Let it rest in the refrigerator for an hour.
In the meantime, prepare the filling. Wash and core the apples, peel them, and cut them into thin slices. In a bowl, combine the apples with the sugar, then add the cinnamon, nutmeg, and the juice of one lemon. Mix everything well with the help of a spoon.
Butter a 9-inch diameter baking pan. On a floured work surface, with the help of a rolling pin, roll out the first piece of dough until you get a round shape larger than the baking pan, with a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
Wrap the dough around a rolling pin and line the baking pan with it, trim the edges, and cut off the excess dough. Pour the apples into the baking pan and let them rest in the fridge.
Roll out the other piece of dough in the same way.In this case, you can proceed with the decoration you prefer. Here I used flower-shaped cutters of different sizes, removing the dough flowers (setting them aside), to create flower-shaped holes in the dough. Remove the baking pan from the fridge and cover the apples with the dough, trimming the edges well and removing the excess dough.
With the leftover dough, create little leaves to place around the edge of the cake and decorate the cake with the flowers set aside earlier.
Brush the surface of the apple pie and the decorations with the beaten egg and add a sprinkle of sugar.Bake in the preheated oven at 356°F, covered with aluminum for the first 20 minutes, then remove it and bake for another 20-25 minutes, until golden brown. Once cooked, remove from the oven and let it cool. Enjoy your meal!
