French toast

French toast is a tasty breakfast idea, easy and quick to make. Despite the name suggesting French origins, French toast is originally American, where it is commonly eaten for breakfast or brunch. To make this recipe, slices of brioche bread are used, but alternatively, stale bread or sandwich bread can also be used. The slices are dipped in a mixture of milk and eggs and then cooked in a pan with butter. You can garnish your French toast as you prefer; I opted for fresh ricotta, mixed berry jam, and powdered sugar for a burst of flavor!

French toast
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Inexpensive
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 8 slices
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop

Ingredients

  • 8 slices brioche bread (gluten-free for celiacs)
  • 2 eggs
  • 50 ml milk (also lactose-free)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • as needed butter (also lactose-free)
  • 2 tablespoons ricotta
  • as needed mixed berry jam
  • as needed powdered sugar

Steps

  • To prepare the French toast, in a large plate, beat the eggs with the milk and cinnamon.

  • Dip the slices of brioche bread one by one in the egg and milk mixture, quickly turning them over on both sides.

  • Gently melt the butter in a small pan. Once melted, place the slices of brioche bread and cook them for 2-3 minutes on one side and 2-3 minutes on the other, turning them with a spatula.

  • When they are golden, transfer the French toast to a plate and continue cooking the remaining slices, making sure to melt a new piece of butter in the pan each time.

  • Once cooked, garnish the French toast directly on the serving plates: I opted for a spoonful of ricotta, mixed berry jam, and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Enjoy!
