Homemade Muesli

Homemade muesli is ideal for breakfast or a mid-day snack. Muesli is healthy, nutritious, and very tasty, and it can be customized to your own taste and imagination. Muesli is a crunchy mix based on oat flakes, cereals, and dried fruits; the crunchiness comes from the mixture of water and honey, then baked. The recipe I propose today is my personal creation, I don’t use sugar and I use: oat flakes, puffed rice, puffed spelt, almonds, walnuts, then I add dried cranberries and raisins. Additionally, for flavoring, I have added grated orange zest, nutmeg, and cinnamon. As always, for the best result of the recipe, it is recommended to use quality products.

Homemade Muesli
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 1 jar 1.5 l
  • Cooking methods: Oven

Ingredients

  • 12 oz Oat flakes
  • 1.75 oz Puffed rice
  • 1.75 oz Puffed spelt
  • 1 oz Almonds
  • 1 oz Walnuts
  • 1 glass Water
  • 2 tbsps Honey
  • 1.5 oz Dried cranberries
  • 1.5 oz Raisins
  • 2 tsps Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 Orange zest

Tools

  • Jar

Preparation

  • To make homemade muesli, pour the oat flakes, puffed rice, and puffed spelt into a large bowl. Then add the almonds (you can use almonds with or without skin) and roughly chopped walnuts.

  • In a small pot, pour the water and add the honey. Heat over low heat and melt the honey; the mixture should not boil.

  • Pour the water and honey mixture into the bowl over the oat flakes and cereals. Mix with a spoon to combine the ingredients until a moist and homogeneous mixture is obtained.

  • Pour everything onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Level well with a spoon and place in a fan oven at 300°F for 40/45 minutes until golden. Every 15 minutes, stir the muesli with a spoon to get an evenly crunchy muesli and avoid it being soft underneath.

  • When the muesli is ready, remove it from the oven and let it cool. Then add the cranberries, raisins, spices, and grated orange peel. Stir with a spoon to flavor the muesli.

  • Pour the muesli into a glass jar with a hermetic seal and consume as needed. Enjoy!
