Savory Apple, Bacon, and Dried Fruit Strudel

The savory apple, bacon, and dried fruit strudel is a rich and delicious idea to serve at the table as an appetizer or as a main course. I made this recipe using a sheet of puff pastry; for the filling, I cooked the bacon in a pan to which I then added apples, walnuts, dried prunes, and dried figs. Perfect for holidays or for a party with friends, this strudel will be appreciated by everyone!

  • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 6 People
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Stove

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 2 apples
  • 5.29 oz bacon
  • 1 sprig rosemary
  • 5 dried prunes
  • 5 dried figs
  • 10 walnut halves
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste salt

Steps

  • To make the savory apple, bacon, and dried fruit strudel, cut the bacon into cubes or strips.

  • Place the bacon in a pan with the rosemary and brown it over medium heat on the stove.

  • Cut the apples into cubes, chop the dried figs and dried prunes into pieces, and coarsely crumble the walnuts.

  • Add the apples and the rest of the ingredients to the bacon, if necessary add a drizzle of oil, and cook for about ten minutes. Then let it cool slightly.

  • Roll out the puff pastry with the long side towards you and spread the filling in the center.

  • Close the strudel by folding the long sides over the filling and seal the ends well. Once closed, transfer the strudel to the oven tray and use a knife to make diagonal cuts on the surface.

  • Brush the strudel surface with extra virgin olive oil and bake in a preheated oven at 392°F for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown.
