Ingredients for the apple and chocolate cake

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup cup Type 1 flour
  • 1/3 cup cup potato starch
  • 1/3 cup cup sunflower seed oil
  • 1/2 cup cup chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup cup erythritol
  • 4 apples
  • 2/3 cup cup kefir or yogurt
  • 1 packet baking powder for desserts
  • 1 lemon

Steps for the apple and chocolate cake

To prepare grandmother’s delicious apple and chocolate cake, start by peeling the apples.

  • Choose sweet and firm varieties (Golden, Fuji or Pink Lady)

  • Chop two apples into cubes on a cutting board and add the grated zest of one lemon

  • and, separately, slice two apples into wedges (these will be for decoration)

  • In a bowl, crack the eggs and add the erythritol and

  • beat with an electric mixer until you obtain a light and frothy mixture.

  • Gradually, while keeping the whisks running, add the seed oil, kefir or yogurt, flour, and baking powder, and mix everything well.

  • Incorporate the apple cubes and

  • the chocolate chips

  • Pour the batter into a 22 cm cake pan lined with parchment paper.

  • Decorate with apple slices spirally to cover the entire surface and

  • the chocolate chips and bake at 350°F for about 30-35 minutes in a static oven.

  • Pan: use a round pan of 7-8 inches that fits in the basket. Line it with parchment paper or grease it well.

    Preheat the air fryer to 320°F.
    Baking: bake for about 35-40 minutes. After 25 minutes, check the surface: if it darkens too much, cover with aluminum foil.
    Toothpick test: insert in the center, it should come out dry. If the batter is still wet, extend by 5-10 minutes.

    Let it cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar, and the apple and chocolate dessert is ready to be served and enjoyed

Storage and Tips

The apple and dark chocolate cake keeps at room temperature for 24 hours

In the refrigerator, it lasts 3–4 days sealed in an airtight container. Before serving, let it return to room temperature

In the freezer, it keeps for two months

    Yes, but it will be less healthy

  • How much sugar can I use instead of erythritol?

    You can use 1/2 cup of sugar if you don’t want it too sweet, otherwise 2/3 cup.

    Yes, but it’s much more refined than type 1 flour. Type 1 flour is stone-ground and retains the properties of the grain unlike all-purpose flour
