The bagel is a type of leavened bread, famous for its characteristic ring shape with a hole in the center. Originating from the Jewish culture of Eastern Europe, the bagel gained international popularity, becoming a symbolic food of New York cuisine.

Bagels are distinguished by their shiny, golden crust and dense, soft interior.

They are made with only flour, Greek yogurt, and a pinch of yeast. Then brushed with egg and sprinkled with various seeds.

They are mainly consumed as a snack, often cut in half and toasted. The most common filling is cream cheese, but they can be stuffed with a variety of ingredients like smoked salmon, eggs, avocado, and vegetables, as well as sweet options like jams, honey, and peanut butter.

Or they can be served plain as a substitute for bread at the table.

The bagel represents a connection to Jewish traditions and the immigration of Eastern European Jews to the United States. It is also a symbol of community and conviviality, often associated with moments of gathering and sharing.

Highly appreciated by both adults and children for their original shape and unique taste.

Tips and Storage

For toasting: Cut the bagel in half and toast it until golden and crispy. A light toasting keeps the inside soft while making the crust crunchy.

If you prefer a softer bagel, wrap it in aluminum foil and heat it in the oven without toasting it.

Sweet and Savory: Try unusual combinations like peanut butter and banana or goat cheese and honey.

Vegetarian: Spread hummus and add grilled vegetables for a delicious vegetarian option.

Bagel Pizza: Use a cut bagel as a base for a mini pizza, adding tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and your favorite toppings.

Breakfast: Prepare a bagel with jam or custard

Lunch: Use the bagel as a base for a sandwich with turkey, lettuce, tomato, and a sauce of your choice. Swiss or cheddar cheese adds a rich flavor.

STORAGE

Short Term: If you plan to consume them within one or two days, store the bagels at room temperature in a paper bag.

Long Term: For longer storage, cut them in half and freeze them. They can be easily defrosted and toasted when needed.
