Ingredients for Lemon, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Honey Decoction

  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 ginger root
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Tools

  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Citrus Juicer
  • 1 Sieve
  • 1 Peeler

Steps for Preparing Lemon, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Honey Decoction

To prepare the lemon, ginger, cinnamon, and honey decoction, start by thoroughly washing the lemons under running water. Then with a peeler, peel the lemons avoiding the white part.

Thoroughly wash the piece of fresh ginger (about 1 inch). You can decide whether to grate it to extract more flavor or slice it thinly for a milder taste. The grater helps to also obtain the ginger’s natural juices.

  • Pour the water into a saucepan and start heating it over medium heat. Do not add the ingredients until the water is boiling, so they will release their properties gradually without “overcooking.”

As soon as the water boils, add the ginger, lemon peels, and cinnamon, and cook for 15 minutes over low heat with a lid.

Once cooked, let it cool down. Strain the decoction with a sieve and add the honey, stirring until it dissolves completely. Then let it cool completely.

In the meantime, juice the lemons with a citrus juicer and strain the juice with the sieve.

Storage and Tips

Use organic lemons to avoid pesticides. Prefer fresh ginger and raw honey, as they better retain their beneficial properties.

If you’re not used to the spicy flavor of ginger, start with a small amount (1 cm of root or a pinch of powder) and gradually increase.

If the taste is too strong, you can dilute the decoction with hot water before drinking it.

If you prefer a sweeter taste, increase the amount of honey, but don’t overdo it.

It keeps in the fridge for 2-3 days. You can warm it up before drinking.
