Meat Rolls

Meat rolls are a classic of Italian cuisine, a tasty and very appetizing second course.

Popular all over the world, they are simple and quick to prepare.

There are multiple recipes, you can really get creative with the filling, personalizing them as you wish.

In my recipe, I stuffed them with slices of cooked ham and cheese, flavored with the addition of sage, and seasoned with a white wine sauce. This combination of flavors makes them irresistible and finger-licking good.

They can be served with fresh vegetables, such as salad or carrots, or with grilled or oven-cooked vegetables.

Besides being a quick recipe, they also have the advantage of being prepared in advance, for example, at noon for the evening and reheated when needed. A practical choice for those who are always on the go and have little time to spend in the kitchen.

Ingredients for Preparing Meat Rolls

  • 4 slices veal
  • 4 slices cooked ham
  • 4 slices scamorza cheese
  • 1/3 onion
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2.5 oz white wine
  • 4 leaves sage
  • to taste fine salt
  • to taste Taggiasca olives

Steps for Preparing Meat Rolls

To prepare the delicious meat rolls, let’s start by taking a cutting board.

  • Then lay out, one at a time, the slices of veal or beef, which should not be too thick, and fill each with a slice of scamorza cheese and a slice of cooked ham.

  • Then roll them onto themselves until you obtain a roll

  • Meanwhile, in a pan, add about half a finger of extra virgin olive oil and about a third of a chopped onion and lightly fry before adding the meat rolls. Cook about two minutes on each side, then add a sage leaf, a dusting of sifted flour, about one level tablespoon, a splash of white wine, the olives, and salt and let cook on low heat with the lid on for another 5 minutes.

  • When cooking is complete, season them with the sauce obtained from cooking and serve hot… enjoy your meal!

Storage and Notes

Meat rolls can be stored in the fridge for two days. Before serving, I recommend reheating them on the stovetop for a few minutes.
