The scenic meatball pie is a complete, tasty, rich, and scenic second course.
It may seem laborious, but in reality, they are simple yet very tasty meatballs adorned with potatoes, which absorb the flavor of the meat during cooking, making them unique.
In the recipe, nothing is pre-cooked; all ingredients are baked raw, and by following the steps correctly, you will have perfect cooking.
I preferred to leave the base free to create a tasty gravy to accompany the dish, but you can also arrange the potatoes as a base, always after greasing the mold.
Meatballs with potatoes is a dish that impresses; serving it at dinner with friends and family always makes an impact, concluding with the tasting, which is always highly appreciated!

Ingredients for Preparing the Meatball Pie
- 1.32 lbs ground veal
- 3 medium potatoes
- 3 slices soft bread
- 1 egg
- 2 oz grated parmesan
- 0.5 oz chopped parsley
- 3.5 oz scamorza cheese
- 1/3 cup milk
- to taste salt
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- 1 glass white wine
Tools for Preparing the Meatball Pie
- 2 Bowls
- 1 Tart Pan
- 1 Fork
- 1 Mandoline
- Aluminum Foil
Steps
To prepare the delicious meatball pie, start by taking a container and pouring in the milk. Add the crumbled bread crumbs and let them soak for a few minutes. Then, squeeze them by hand and add them to a bowl along with the ground veal, the egg, grated parmesan, chopped parsley, salt, and the previously chopped scamorza cheese, and mix everything with a fork.
Meanwhile, using a mandoline, slice the peeled potatoes into not-too-thick rounds and salt them. Subsequently, form meatballs of about 90 grams (3.2 oz) each with your hands. Then, oil a tart pan and line the edges with potato slices. Place the meatballs as shown in the photo, and between each one, insert a potato slice as well. At this point, drizzle a splash of oil on the potatoes and meatballs, cover with aluminum foil and bake at 356°F for about 45 minutes. Halfway through cooking, remove the foil, sprinkle with a glass of white wine to moisten the meatballs and potatoes, and finish cooking on the middle rack of the oven until golden.
Cook in air fryer at 392°F for 20 minutes or until the potatoes are nicely browned
Once cooked, let it cool slightly before serving and… enjoy!
Tips and Notes
The meatball pie can be stored in the fridge for two days, and before serving, I suggest reheating it in the oven at 320°F for 5-8 minutes.
