The savory star is a perfect baked good to prepare during the Christmas holidays 😉
We are slowly getting into the Christmas spirit, and the desire to make themed recipes is starting 🙂
I have many ideas swirling in my head, and since I had some Christmas molds bought last year on Amazon that I hadn’t used yet, now is the right time to use them.
The savory star is made with simple ingredients that are easily found in the market: provolone, cooked ham, olives, and cherry tomatoes.
You can get creative with what you have or like best: instead of provolone, you can use smoked cheese, Gruyère, Asiago, or any other hard or semi-hard cheese.
I used yellow cherry tomatoes, which are very tasty, but if you can’t find them, feel free to use red ones, which are equally tasty on their own.
I used instant yeast, which is poured directly into the dough and rises directly in the oven.
I used re-milled durum wheat semolina flour, which made the savory a little more like bread, but if you don’t have it, you can use only all-purpose flour.
I didn’t use salt because it was already in the olives.
It’s a cute idea to present at Christmas as an appetizer or side dish.
