Hello friends, today I present to you this delicious fake apple strudel with phyllo dough, suitable for any occasion. This recipe was created out of necessity, as I had some phyllo dough about to expire, and I decided to make a fake apple strudel. It’s ‘fake’ because there’s no raisins, and I only use pine nuts and crumbled amaretti for crunchiness. Below you’ll find the recipe..
- Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients for the Fake Apple Strudel with Phyllo Dough
- 4 sheets phyllo dough
- 2 apples
- 1.1 oz pine nuts
- 3 tablespoons rum
- 3 tablespoons brown or granulated sugar
- to taste ground cinnamon
- 10 amaretti
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- to taste water
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- to taste powdered sugar for dusting
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar for coating
Tools
- Parchment paper
- 1 Spoon
- 1 Bowl
- 1 Baking tray
- 1 Brush
- 1 Small bowl
Steps for the Fake Apple Strudel with Phyllo Dough
To make this delicious fake apple strudel with phyllo dough, peel and cut the apples into small cubes and place them in a large bowl. Then add the sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, rum, and mix. Finally, add the pine nuts and set aside.
Spread a sheet of parchment paper and then a sheet of phyllo dough on a baking tray, brush with an emulsion of water and extra virgin olive oil, and place another sheet of phyllo dough on top, repeating the process for the other sheets. Distribute the filling along the horizontal edge of the sheets, crumble the amaretti, then roll up the strudel, tightening well around the mixture using the parchment paper as a handkerchief. Seal the sides well. Place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper so that the seam is in contact with the tray. Brush the surface with the remaining emulsion (water-oil), make some cuts, and then sprinkle with the tablespoon of granulated sugar. Bake in a preheated static oven at 392°F for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown. Turn off, remove from oven, and let cool.
Place the fake apple strudel with phyllo dough on a serving plate and serve with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. I hope you like this latest recipe of mine, see you next time, friends.
STORAGE, TIPS, AND NOTES
The fake apple strudel with phyllo dough can be stored for 2 days and can also be enjoyed warm by reheating it in the microwave. You can also change the filling to your liking. Phyllo dough can be replaced with puff pastry or strudel dough.
