Battered Vegetables

Battered vegetables are a delight for the palate. With the batter, various foods can be fried, from vegetables to fish, and it is very simple to prepare. There are various recipes, but the main ingredients are sparkling water and flour. Some add eggs, some beer instead of water, or even a pinch of baking soda. I love vegetables prepared this way; the frying results in a crunchier and lighter texture. In my family, artichokes, in particular, have always been fried with a breading of flour and egg, equally good, but they don’t taste as good as when battered. For this recipe, I chose zucchini and artichokes, but you can choose the vegetables you like the most. So, ready to prepare this appetizer for everyone? Here’s the recipe for you.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 20 Minutes
  • Portions: 4
  • Cooking methods: Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 5 artichokes
  • 2 zucchini
  • 1 2/3 cups flour
  • 1 cup sparkling water

Procedure

  • In a bowl, place the flour and water, and mix well to avoid lumps. It should be a smooth and fairly liquid mixture.

  • Add the vegetables you have chosen and mix.

  • Fry in hot oil, cooking for a few minutes on each side. Once they puff up and turn golden, flip them.

  • The battered vegetables are ready!

Tip

Battered vegetables, like all fried foods, should be eaten immediately, but if you have leftovers, reheat them in a hot oven or in a pan.
