Meat Turnovers in Air Fryer

The meat turnovers are a great main dish idea for the whole family, easy and very tasty and can be stuffed with various flavors. This preparation is found in almost every butcher’s counter and usually made with mixed minced beef and pork. In my recipe, I chose only beef, filling them in a classic way with cooked ham and mozzarella. The difference for these meat turnovers will be the cooking method, which will not be on the pan leaving odors in the house or in the traditional oven with excessive electricity use, but in the air fryer, an appliance now present in almost every home also for speeding up times. I admit I use it as an oven and not as a fryer, and the results of the dishes are very satisfying. I will publish more recipes cooked this way on my blog…to start here are some ideas!!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Medium
  • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 9 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Air Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 850 g ground veal
  • 20 g salt
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • salt
  • mozzarella as needed
  • cooked ham as needed
  • breadcrumbs
  • turmeric (optional)
  • oil

Tools

  • Air Fryer
  • Oil Sprayer
  • Brush
  • Meat Tenderizer
  • Parchment Paper

Steps

  • Start by seasoning the meat with Parmesan, salt, and pepper, mixing the ingredients with your hands.

  • Then form a patty of about 3.5 oz.

  • Place it on a sheet of parchment paper, put another one on top, and with a meat tenderizer, press it to a thickness of about 1/8-1/5 inches, making it as uniform as possible.

  • At this point, fill them as you prefer, in my case with cooked ham and mozzarella.

  • Fold one half over the other, aligning the edges well, and press the ends with your fingers to adhere well just as if you are closing a “turnover”. If you want, you can also pass the prongs of a fork as I did for a greater seal.

  • Once you have filled them all, proceed with seasoning in breadcrumbs with salt, pepper, and a bit of turmeric, (if you like it).

  • Bread the turnovers by pressing them lightly in the breadcrumbs, but making sure they adhere well on all sides.

  • Now you just need to oil them a bit only on the top. I used an oil sprayer, but you can simply pour a splash of oil and spread it with a brush.

  • Place a sheet of parchment paper for the air fryer at the base and put as many turnovers as it can hold. Turn on at 392°F for 15 minutes.

  • In no time, without mess and without dispersing odors, your meat turnovers will be ready!!

Storage

You can prepare the meat turnovers a day in advance and store them covered in the refrigerator to cook the next day. Once cooked, it is preferable to eat them immediately, but you can keep them in the fridge until the next day and reheat them for a few minutes in the air fryer before consuming.
