Soft cookies with an intense orange scent. These are fabulous cookies that melt in your mouth, perfect for breakfast, a snack, or to finish a meal. In the winter season, with the arrival of this wonderful and healthy fruit, these treats simply must be made. The preparation is very simple and requires few ingredients. They are also very pleasant to look at, and every year for Christmas I always make them along with other Christmas sweets. The cookies are slightly crunchy on the outside but soft inside; after tasting the first one, you won’t be able to stop eating more. Even kids will love them. I’ll leave you to the recipe and other ideas.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Rest time: 1 Hour
  • Preparation time: 20 Minutes
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Winter

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 orange zest
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 egg
  • powdered sugar

Tools

  • Parchment paper
  • Stand mixer
  • Scale

Steps

  • In a stand mixer or by hand, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and softened butter. Start the mixer with the K hook and mix for a few minutes.

  • Then add the egg, orange zest, and orange juice.

  • Knead again just long enough to compact the dough. When ready, cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.

  • Take the dough from the fridge and divide it into 18 g pieces.

  • Form into balls.

  • Roll them in powdered sugar.

  • On a baking sheet, place parchment paper and lay the dough balls spaced apart. Bake at 340°F in a preheated fan oven for 15 minutes. At the end of cooking, they will be golden with cracks on the surface.

  • The soft orange cookies are ready!

  • Let the cookies cool on the tray before moving them; they will be very soft just out of the oven.

Tip

You can store the cookies in a container for several days. I recommend using only untreated oranges because of the zest you’ll use.
