- 1 cup skim milk
- 3 tbsps flour
- to taste nutmeg
Procedure for Bechamel Sauce Without Butter
Place the flour, preferably sifted, in a saucepan.
Gradually add the milk while stirring with a whisk.
Grate some nutmeg (to taste).
Now we can move to the heat.
Turn on low heat and stir with the whisk until the mixture thickens. As soon as it starts to thicken, turn off the heat and let it cool in a bowl.

How to Store Bechamel Sauce Without Butter
Once cooled and placed in an airtight jar, it can be stored in the fridge for a couple of days. But it’s so simple that it’s worth making fresh.
Also very convenient to prepare in advance, suitable for lactose intolerant or vegan diets by replacing the milk with lactose-free milk or soy milk. It will be equally delicious and light.
I don’t add salt because I prefer the neutral flavor of this sauce. But you can add a pinch of salt to taste.
