Microwave Boiled Potatoes

Do you have a microwave? Learn how to cook boiled potatoes in the microwave in just a few minutes without using the stove.

Recipes with potatoes are always among the most tasty and satisfying.

Gnocchi, mashed potatoes, potato parmigiana are among my absolute favorites. Those beautiful and colorful potato salads are also never missing in my menus.

But most of them require a long boiling time, which we often don’t have the time or the will to do.

What should we do? Give up? NOT A CHANCE.

So here I am, with some tricks to have your potatoes cooked and boiled in just a few minutes, by microwaving them.

  • 1.1 lbs potatoes
  • 0.4 cup water

Tools for Microwave Boiled Potatoes

The tools here are essential to ensure a great outcome for microwave boiled potatoes. Besides the microwave (obviously), you’ll need a container and microwave-safe plastic wrap.

  • 1 Microwave oven microwave oven
  • 1 Container Microwave container
  • 1 Plastic wrap Microwave-safe plastic wrap

Procedure for Microwave Boiled Potatoes

  • Depending on the recipe we need them for, we can cook the potatoes either whole with the skin or peeled and cut. Obviously, the cooking times will differ.

    Remember that in both cases they should be potatoes of similar size or cut into very similar shapes, whether cubes or slices.

    For whole potatoes: Wash the potatoes well under running water and place them in a microwave-safe container. Fill with about 1 inch of water and cover with microwave-safe plastic wrap.

    Cook in the microwave at 700 watts for 10 minutes.

    For cut potatoes: Peel the potatoes and cut them into slices or cubes of equal size. Place them in a microwave-safe container and fill with about 1 inch of water. Cover with microwave-safe plastic wrap, puncturing it in a couple of spots.

    Cook in the microwave at 800 watts for 7 minutes.
